Why Visiting Angels?

We believe that our experience in homecare franchising is the deepest in homecare franchising. We have 5 directors/stockholders of our company who have owned and operated their own NON-MEDICAL homecare agencies for periods of 4-12 years each. We believe that the deep experience of our directors is critical to the success of our franchisees. One of our directors, Jeffrey Johnson, has provided homecare services dating back to the 1980's. The homecare agency that he started in 1991 has serviced more than 1000 clients and grossed nearly $2 Million in annual revenues. In addition, Visiting Angels has recruited successful independent homecare agency owners to serve as directors to offer additional guidance to our franchisees. The value of a franchise is only as good as the expertise it affords.

You won't find a more experienced group anywhere.

About Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services

In the 1980's, Jeffrey Johnson was employed as a Director of Social Work in a nursing home in the Baltimore, Maryland area. He listened as families of clients expressed frustration that they had no choice other than to place their loved ones in the nursing facility. Eventually, Jeffrey resolved to establish his own business to meet the needs of homebound senior citizens. In the summer of 1991, Jeffrey resigned from his position with the nursing home and started a non-medical homecare agency called "The Senior Care Group, Inc." in Baltimore. He started very small, operating from his home, with enough capital to run a few small ads to solicit clients. The early ads generated the first clients including one that required services for two years. Within a few years, Jeffrey's homecare agency was approaching $2 million in annual sales despite growing competition. By the year 2002 He had served more than 1000 clients!

Experienced caregivers available

Jeffrey was amazed at how many experienced home caregivers were available in his market. The agency business began to receive numerous calls each week from experienced caregivers interested in homecare positions. Most were middle aged to early senior age and found this to be a low stress, desirable job, caring for just one care recipient in a day. Many had worked in healthcare settings where they had to care for multiple patients in a single day.

Clients need significant hours of care

Jeffrey saw that their typical client needed their services for four to 24 hours per day, an average of more than 12 months, and spent from $15,000 to $35,000 annually for the agency's services (they might spend much more for a nursing home). Medicare did not cover these services. At this level, even 20 substantial clients could amount to a significant business (typical gross profit is 25% to 40% after caregivers are paid). Yet industry statistics indicated that their metropolitan area of two million people contained up to 40,000 clients who receive home care services each year.

Building relationships

Jeffrey Johnson has always held the philosophy that he is in business to provide the very best care possible to his clients as well as total respect to the caregiving staff.

Jeffrey's social work background and emphasis on BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS (with both clients and caregivers) has enabled him to keep clients far longer than industry averages (average length of service per client has been more than 12 months). It is our belief that "VISITING ANGELS" homecare agencies should have the very best in training and support so that elderly clients will receive top quality care wherever the need exists.
